What are the check-in and check-out times?
Check-in is 2pm, check-out is 11am.
What is the layout of a guest villa?
Each Guest Villa is a little different, but they are in a suite-like configuration, with a generous living area. You can request ‘Washitsu’ (Japanese style futons on tatami mats) or ‘Yoshitsu’ (Western style beds) sleeping arrangements. Some rooms also have an additional tatami mat room to accommodate children on futons in the same villa as parents or simply for additional space. Room floor plans are available here.
Will I be able to access the internet in my villa?
All guest villas are equipped with wi-fi internet access. Wireless LAN is available anywhere within Zaborin.
How do I enjoy a Japanese bath?
The baths are for relaxation and the natural spring waters are known for its soothing and healing properties. As such, the Japanese tradition is to wash in the shower before enjoying the bath.
Does the onsen water come directly from the hot spring source to the guest villas?
Yes, you can enjoy the onsen water that comes directly from the hot spring source for both indoor and outdoor baths.
May I smoke in my villa?
All villas are non-smoking so please do not smoke inside. We also provide dedicated smoking areas: Yotei Terrace (outdoors) or Cigar room (indoors).
Are pets allowed in the rooms?
We are a pet-free ryokan.
Do you have samue outfits for children?
Yes, we have 110cm and 120cm sizes of samue outfits for younger children. Since the outfits are unisex in style, our ladies’ sizes should also fit older children.
Do you have a child rate?
Yes, for children under 12 years, the rate per night is 70% of the adult rate including an adult’s kaiseki meal, and 50 % of the adult per night rate if taken with a child’s version of the meal.
For children under 6 years who require their own bedding the rate is only 10,000JPY night. For children under 6 years who share bedding with their parents the rate is 6,000JPY per night. Both rates for children under 6 years includes a young-child’s breakfast.
Children over 13 years are charged at the full adult rate.
Is Zaborin wheelchair accessible?
Yes, we have a lift and the communal areas are wheelchair accessible. However, there are some areas where there is a small step, so please do not hesitate to ask the staff for any assistance. Wheelchair accessible restroom is located on the second floor.
Is there a mini-bar and a refrigerator in the room?
Yes, there is. The local snacks and juices are complimentary. The price list for alcoholic drinks such as wines and Yoichi whisky can be found in your mini-bar.
What items should I bring to a ryokan?
As with most visits to a ryokan, you should only need to bring your favourite cosmetics and clothes for outdoor wear. All rooms are equipped with samue outfits (to walk around the premises in), slippers for use within the ryokan, pyjamas, onsen bags, tabi socks and hanten coats. We also provide toothbrush and toothpaste, razors and shaving cream, soap, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion in each bathroom.
What other items are available on request?
We have a selection of pillows to choose from, please enquire for a pillow list. Humidifier, mobile phone charger and adaptors are also available on request. Please note that we can remove the added luxurious ‘bed topper’, should you prefer a firmer mattress.
Can I purchase the pyjamas or samue outfits?
Yes, these are available for purchase on requests. Please enquire at the reception.
Restaurant and Communal Areas
What are the opening hours of the restaurant and communal areas?
As a ryokan we function more as a home away from home rather than a formal restaurant or hotel. All the communal areas are open for your use to browse and enjoy throughout the day. Traditional green tea and original Zaborin sweets are available at the Chanoza Alcove upon arrival. Seated meal times are scheduled and can be arranged with our staff. Breakfast seating is between 7:30am and 9:30am and our Kita-kaiseki dinner starts between 5:30pm and 8pm. A table will be reserved for you and your party at your preferred seating time. The bar is open from 5pm until 10pm, but we are happy to serve you elsewhere and earlier if you would like; please let us know.
Is there a dress code?
There is no dress code as we would like you to feel at home. Most guests prefer to relax in the samue outfits provided while they wander around the ryokan. However you are welcome to wear whatever makes you most comfortable.
Are outside visitors allowed to use the restaurant and common areas of the ryokan?
In order to ensure that our overnight guests can enjoy maximum privacy and quiet, only staying guests, and their guests, may enjoy the restaurant and common areas.
Access and the Environs around Zaborin
Is there any place nearby for shopping?
Like any resort, the shopping is limited. For ski wear and outfits, the closest available shop is in Hanazono resort base, only a few minutes by shuttle, and Hirafu village offers a large number of shops with more variety.
Kutchan is the closest town. It is approximately 15 minutes by car from Zaborin and offers a few local stores and larger supermarkets and super drugstores. There are smaller convenience stores 10 minutes by car.
There are many little local shops or places for local produce or wares, dotted around the area, and we would be happy to point you in the direction of these if you would like to explore.
Are there any ATMs nearby?
Yes but please note not all ATMs can provide for international cards. The most reliable ATM for international bank withdrawal is in Hirafu, situated in the Shiki apartments building. If you have Japanese accounts, the closest are in the convenience stores nearby or the supermarket in Kutchan (about 15 minute drive from Zaborin).
Where is the closest hospital?
Kutchan Kosei Hospital (General & Emergency) is located approximately 15 minutes by car from the ryokan. There is an English speaking children’s clinic in Kutchan which we can refer you to.
How long does it take to get to the nearest ski resort?
Hanazono, part of Niseko United Resort is only minutes away by shuttle from Zaborin, and connects to Niseko Resort Grand Hirafu (which is approximately 15 minutes by car on dry roads).
Which golf courses can I play at?
There are three world-class golf courses within the Niseko area. The nearest is Niseko Tokyu Golf, which is just 5 minutes away. There is also Niseko Village Golf Course at the Hilton and the Niseko Golf Course are both approximately 25 minutes by car. We would be happy to help you arrange a tee time.
Fun golf alternatives (Snag Golf, Park Golf and Disc Golf) are also available at Niseko Village PURE Activity Centre.
What other activities are available in the area?
In the summer there is rafting, canyoning, tennis, golf, hiking and bicycling. The famous Nikka Distillery is approximately 1 hour away by car. In addition, there are many other local places (farms, orchards, markets, restaurants, museums) to discover. Please ask the staff and we would be happy to help make some suggestions or help with booking.
Is there a shop at Zaborin?
Yes, there is a shop next to the reception with selected items from Japan, and more specifically from Hokkaido and across Japan. Zaborin onsen bags, samue outfits and pyjamas, can be purchased as well through the shop.
Is there a large public bath?
We are fortunate that each room has its own private indoor and outdoor baths and therefore we do not have a large communal bath. All private baths have the same benefits and minerals as the famous public baths as they are all filled with onsen water coming directly from spring itself.
There are also rustic hot springs in nearby such as Goshiki Onsen and Yukichichibu – we would be happy to recommend others and enquire about opening hours and rates.
Do you have ski lockers or golf lockers?
Yes, our lockers for skis and golfs are located on the first floor.
Is there a massage room?
Yes, we have the Tomoshibi Massage Room. We can arrange traditional shiatsu, oil or sports massage with advanced booking.
Are we allowed to go to the communal area in samue outfits?
Yes, this is common practice in the ryokan and you will not be alone!
Can I only enjoy the books within the library – or do I need to ‘check out’ items?
You are welcome to enjoy the books and board games from the library anywhere in the ryokan and in the comfort of your room. There is no need to ‘check out’ an item but we ask that you leave them behind on your departure so that other guests may continue to enjoy them.
Do you have a laundry service?
As a ryokan, we don’t have in-house laundry service but are affiliated with a laundry service in Kutchan. Please ask the staff for the details.
How can we get a rental car?
Toyota offers an easy-to-use online rental service in English. but We would be more than happy to help with arrangements. make arrangements for you. Please note these do get very booked up and we recommend advanced booking.
Is there the shuttle bus service?
We have a complimentary shuttle bus service to Hanazono, Kutchan or Hirafu.
How can we get to Zaborin from the New Chitose Airport?

Do you have on-site parking?
Yes, we have outdoor parking spaces which are complimentary for our staying guests.
Is there internet access at Zaborin?
High-speed wireless internet access is available anywhere within the ryokan.
Which credit cards are accepted?
We accept VISA, Master, JCB, AMEX and Diners credit cards
